An Inclusive Vision

for Education

Patrick Baldwin

I am a proud Minnesota public school product and parent. Like many of you, my wife Adrienne and I moved to St. Louis Park to raise our family on the strength of the community and diversity in the school district.

Our children have attended Peter Hobart, St. Louis Park Middle School, and St. Louis Park High School and have had overwhelmingly positive experiences at each step. I want this for each and every child.

More about me: I am a former DFL Committee Administrator in the MN House of Representatives and attorney. I currently work as a GIS Consultant with clients in local and state government across the US and Canada, as well as at large nonprofits and companies worldwide.

When I am not working, I’m usually cooking for my family, or watching and shuttling kids to swim practices, swim meets, and little league games. You might also find me running the trails at Westwood Nature Center, biking along the Cedar Lake Trail, or at a local concert (if we share musical tastes!). Our whole family are big T-wolves and Lynx fans.

But my campaign isn’t really about me. Please, tell me tell me about what matters to you in our school district community. Both of my parents were teachers and half of my four sisters are teachers—I’m a listener!

My Priorities

It isn’t always easy. Each child is different. Many of us struggle to make everything “work” between our jobs, our kids’ schooling, activities, and the real fear that we’re not doing everything we can for our children! I hope to facilitate communication across the district so that as parents, caregivers, and students, we all feel like our needs are being met and our voices are being heard.

I think one of the most important things we can do for the strength of the school district is to do everything we can to keep St. Louis Park families in St. Louis Park Public Schools. Someone much wiser than I am said that we all do better when we all do better—I believe that applies doubly to education.

Unfortunately, public schools are under direct attack from the Trump Administration and the US Supreme Court. I will fight any effort to weaken our historically strong St. Louis Park schools or divide our community. I will protect our most vulnerable LGBTQIA+ students and immigrant families from any outside interference. The district has a strong set of values and core mission which I will champion.

Data-Driven Decision-making “Vibes”

  • The board’s job is to make informed, well-reasoned choices. Test scores and headlines don’t tell the whole story, and there is often more data than we know how to easily interpret. I can parse the data and ask the right questions for transparency and accountability.

  • I have broad experience helping legislators and clients understand loads of data and creating decision support tools.

  • As a board member, I will be part of a your decision support tool for meaningful, objective measures of progress in all phases of education.

Empowering Educators Overworked, overmanaged teachers

  • We have been consistently blown away by the high-quality instruction my kids have gotten from SLP teachers, and their ability to explain the process to us.

  • Recruiting and retaining the best teachers means treating them as the professionals they are. We sometimes praise teachers for the “thankless” parts of their jobs without acknowledging the technical aspects of what they are trained to do.

    Communication and Transparency

  • I will listen to you and be the bridge between the board and the family experience.

  • I will leverage my relationships with the current and new city council to facilitate more collaboration and a better shared understanding.
